A shirtless man identified as Gabriel Hideo was arrested on September 30 after an hour-long standoff in the ceiling of a Macy's store at the Vancouver Mall in Washington state. Employees alerted police upon seeing Hideo crawling above them, causing damage to ceiling tiles, lights, wiring, and other fixtures.

The second floor of the department store was evacuated as authorities attempted to coax Hideo down. Police placed a ladder into the overhead space and positioned a mattress below as a precaution. Hideo initially ignored requests to descend and continued to cause damage from above.

After more than an hour, Hideo began to descend the ladder but attempted to retreat back into the ceiling. Police then tried to prevent his ascent by pulling on the ladder. During the struggle, Hideo fell from the ceiling, landing on the mattress below. According to the Vancouver Police Department, he then got up and tried to run, but was apprehended by officers.

Video footage captured Hideo rolling on the ground in a parkour-like motion before attempting to flee from the group of officers. He was heard grunting loudly as he was cuffed.

Hideo was booked into the Clark County Jail. He faces charges including first-degree malicious mischief and burglary, in addition to an existing felony warrant.
