Sherrod Brown Campaign Accepts Thousands from Pelosi Affiliated Committees Amid Stock Trading Criticism

Former Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, who has publicly criticized congressional stock trading and advocated for a ban, has accepted $33,000 in campaign donations from committees affiliated with Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a prominent figure in Washington D.C. Records from the Federal Election Commission show that $28,000 of these contributions were made since February 2024.

Brown has been vocal about his stance on the issue, stating on his campaign website, "No one – NO ONE – who serves in Congress, or their spouse, should be able to trade stocks. They also shouldn’t be able to turn around when they leave office and become a lobbyist. If you can’t agree to that, you shouldn’t be in public office."

Just weeks after announcing his return bid, Brown's campaign received $7,000 from Pelosi-affiliated committees. Specifically, PAC to the Future contributed $5,000, and Nancy Pelosi for Congress gave $2,000.

Mehek Cooke, a Republican strategist, described Brown's alignment with the Democratic establishment as a contradiction to his outsider persona. "I hate when people present themselves as one thing and then turn their backs on you in Washington," Cooke said, characterizing it as another instance of Brown's "Jekyll and Hyde" platform and noting his long political career.

Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul Pelosi, have an estimated net worth of approximately $278 million, according to a 2026 Yahoo Finance report. A 2025 New York Post report indicated the couple had made over $130 million in stock profits during her tenure in Congress.

Nicholas Martin, a spokesperson for Pelosi, stated that she does not own any stocks and has no involvement in stock transactions. Martin noted that Pelosi previously supported lawmakers trading stocks in a free-market economy but later supported a ban in early 2022, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in financial conduct for elected officials.

The debate over congressional stock trading has been ongoing, with critics citing potential insider advantages. Last month, Senate Democrats blocked the Republican-backed Stop Insider Trading Act, arguing it lacked sufficient strength.

Brown, encouraged to run by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, is seeking to regain his U.S. Senate seat in Ohio and is set to face Republican Sen. Jon Husted. Brown previously chaired the Senate Banking Committee and was first elected to the Senate in 2006.

Sen Jon Husted

This is not the first time Brown's campaign donations have drawn scrutiny. In September, Fox News Digital reported that Brown had targeted Husted over Ohio's data centers in a campaign ad, despite the facility's owner, Google, having its PAC and lobbyists contribute thousands to Brown's campaigns.

Amy Natoce, a spokesperson for Husted's campaign, stated that Brown "spent 32 years in Washington literally building the system he now calls ‘rigged’" and accused him of hypocrisy for being backed by the same individuals he claims to oppose.
