Sheffield United's ownership is embroiled in a legal battle, facing a winding-up order in the High Court that could lead to significant penalties for the Championship club, including a potential 12-point deduction.

The dispute centers on allegations made by United World, a group associated with the club's former ownership, that the current owners, Helmy Eltoukhy and Steven Rosen, are attempting to avoid paying creditors. United World claims that the creation of 1919 Partners LLC was an effort to circumvent these debts and that Eltoukhy and Rosen are trying to acquire the club without fulfilling financial obligations.

Sources close to the current Sheffield United ownership have refuted these accusations, stating that the deal made in 2024 was advised by Prince Abdullah's own financial advisors. They described United World's actions as a "publicity stunt" aimed at harming the club and its supporters. This faction asserts that Sheffield United is financially healthy, contrasting it with a past period under Prince Abdullah which resulted in a points deduction for missed payments to football creditors. They also stated that Eltoukhy and Rosen had invited Abdullah to reinvest and contribute to the club's promotion efforts, emphasizing their focus on the club's sustainability.

United World responded on Tuesday, asserting that parties involved in sophisticated deals pay the agreed price. They clarified that an offer of company shares instead of the owed money was not part of the original agreement. They further argued that if the club is indeed financially sound and its owners possess the reported means, the outstanding money can be paid, which would resolve the situation. United World contends that the current owners are operating a club they have not paid for and that the club's financial state is a consequence of a scheme to avoid payment.

Neither the English Football League (EFL) nor the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) has officially commented on the share transfer to 1919 Partners LLC. However, the IFR confirmed it is actively seeking more information. In a statement on Tuesday, the IFR acknowledged awareness of the winding-up petition concerning COH Sports Bidco and indicated engagement with the club and relevant organizations, while stating it could not comment further at this stage.
