Shaun Wright-Phillips Eliminated from 'Strictly Come Dancing'

Former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips has been voted off Strictly Come Dancing, becoming the fourth contestant eliminated from the competition. Wright-Phillips and his professional partner Alexis Warr were sent home after the judges opted to save actress Jaime Winstone in the dance-off.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood described Wright-Phillips's routine as "a disaster," citing issues with timing and kicks. Anton Du Beke noted that the pair appeared to be performing different dances. Wright-Phillips acknowledged making mistakes, stating he had executed the routine flawlessly in rehearsals.

In the same episode, Olympian Tabby Stoecker and her partner Mark Karmalita achieved the highest score of the night with 37 points for their Couple's Choice routine, earning the season's first perfect 10s from judges Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse. Australian singer Delta Goodrem returned to the dancefloor after a week's absence due to a rib injury, scoring 34 points for her rumba with Kai Widdrington.

Last week, Paralympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey and her partner Julian Caillon were the third couple eliminated after losing the dance-off to actress Bethany Antonia and her partner Nancy Xu.

The show has faced scrutiny regarding declining television viewership, with Saturday night's episode drawing an average of 5.3 million viewers, a slight increase from the previous week but still lower than the launch show's audience. The series debuted with a new presenting team, including Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe, and Josh Widdicombe, replacing long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. Unconfirmed reports suggest that BBC executives are considering changes to the hosting lineup for future seasons.

The program also experienced a live scoring error on Saturday when Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola were awarded a six by head judge Shirley Ballas, but an on-screen graphic incorrectly displayed a seven. Host Emma Willis corrected the discrepancy before the leaderboard reveal, confirming the correct total score.

Earlier in the show, the judges engaged in notable disagreements, including a remark from Craig Revel Horwood to Motsi Mabuse and a physical exchange where Revel Horwood playfully took one of Shirley Ballas's shoe props. Presenter Josh Widdicombe humorously commented on the judges' interactions.
