Sharon Stone Jokingly References Sydney Sweeney's Lingerie Line in Variety Interview

Sharon Stone, 68, has offered a playful dig at fellow actress Sydney Sweeney's foray into the lingerie business. In a video for Variety's Power of Women issue, Stone revisited some of her most iconic roles, including her time on the HBO series Euphoria, where she shared the screen with Sweeney.

During the interview, Stone recounted an anecdote about her character, Patricia Lance, an executive producer who tried to steer Sweeney's character, Cassie Howard, away from her work as a cam girl and into a role on a series called L.A. Nights. Stone humorously stated, "And she agreed to stop being a cam girl — which she didn’t do. As you can see from Sydney’s new lingerie line, it didn’t take."

.

Sweeney, 29, launched her lingerie brand SYRN in January, aiming to rival established labels like Kim Kardashian's Skims and Rihanna's Savage x Fenty. The brand offers a wide range of sizes and styles, described as modes such as Comfy, Playful, Romantic, and Seductress. Sweeney has stated her intention for the brand was to create a space where women can embrace different aspects of their identity.

More recently, Sweeney faced public scrutiny for her appearance in a commercial for the sports betting app Novig. In the advertisement, Sweeney is depicted nude, using sports equipment to cover herself. The founder of Novig, Jacob Fortinsky, explained that Sweeney herself chose to pose nude for the campaign, citing a preference for the platform's focus on sports predictions over other apps that might involve more personal or speculative markets.

"She said, 'I'm uncomfortable with other platforms that have markets on what color underwear I’m going to wear'," Fortinsky recalled. "There's something clean about sports." Sweeney holds an equity stake in Novig.

The Novig ad has drawn criticism from some viewers who felt it was overly sexualized, with one Instagram user writing, "We’ve spent years fighting to be seen and respected for our talent, strength and achievements, not reduced to our bodies…" Others suggested the ad was intended to be controversial, comparing it to past campaigns by celebrities like Brooke Shields.

Stone, known for her own boundary-pushing roles, particularly in Basic Instinct, covered Variety's Power of Women issue, where she discussed her career and iconic performances. .

During her discussion with Variety, Stone also touched upon her role in The Quick and the Dead and her directorial debut with The Missing. The actress reflected on the choices she made throughout her career, including her decision to not undergo cosmetic surgery, which she believes has allowed her to age naturally and maintain her career longevity.
