Sharon Stone Criticizes "Sliver" Dialogue, Amidst Billy Baldwin's Remarks
The actress called the film's writing "terrible," a week after her former co-star stated he would never work with her again.
Sharon Stone recently voiced her disapproval of the "terrible dialogue" in her 1993 film "Sliver," following comments made by her co-star Billy Baldwin, who stated he would "never" work with her again. Stone reflected on the film during a recent interview with Variety, where she was asked to identify movie quotes. One quote, "You’ve been spending too much time with your vibrator," prompted Stone to admit she didn't recall saying or thinking it, and she eventually identified it as being from "Sliver."
"I made a rule that no one was allowed to even say that word for years. And that’s why, because, what terrible dialogue. Clearly written by a man without enough to do," Stone said about the film, which was written by Joe Eszterhas. Stone had previously collaborated with Eszterhas on the 1992 film "Basic Instinct."
In "Sliver," Stone played a book editor who moves into a Manhattan building and begins a relationship with a tenant portrayed by Baldwin. The film, based on Ira Levin's novel, received poor reviews. Stone's career saw a resurgence two years later with her role in Martin Scorsese's "Casino," for which she earned her first and only Oscar nomination.
Baldwin had also recently discussed "Sliver" on the "Lisa Guerrero Unleashed" podcast, noting "tension" between himself and Stone on set. He claimed that after an initial period of amicable interaction, Stone ceased speaking to him for the remainder of the filming. Baldwin stated that he approached producers to request that he not be required to kiss Stone in the film's final scene.
Baldwin also mentioned that Stone had reportedly spoken negatively about his acting on "Larry King Live" around the time of "Sliver's" premiere. He also made other allegations about Stone's behavior, including the presence of a "shrine" to him in her trailer and her use of crutches after he accidentally stepped on her foot during a scene. Despite these claims, Baldwin expressed a desire to resolve any past issues with Stone, stating he would welcome the opportunity to shake her hand or offer a hug.
