Sharon Osbourne: Ozzy Ignored Doctors' Orders for Final Performance

Sharon Osbourne has shared that no one, not even their children, knew the extent of Ozzy Osbourne's illness when he performed what would be his final concert. The Black Sabbath frontman was instructed not to perform his "Back To The Beginning" show at Villa Park, but he chose to defy doctors' orders for one last opportunity to bid farewell to his fans.

Ozzy Osbourne died two weeks later, on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, following a series of health issues including Parkinson's disease. Sharon Osbourne recounted her anxieties during the British premiere of a film documenting the final concert, stating, "He was just praying that his lungs would work and that he could sing."

She revealed the immense pressure she felt keeping the severity of his health from their children. "I was petrified," she said. "He did great and we see that in the film. But the guys (Black Sabbath) didn't know how sick Ozzy was. Even my kids, we never told my kids. Nobody knew how sick he was."

Adding to the emotional weight of the performance, she noted, "Besides that, just being together again in Aston Villa, where it all began, their lives must have been flashing through their heads while they were on that stage."

Osbourne elaborated on the singer's physical struggles, explaining, "He was just praying that his lungs would work and that he could sing. Because I mean, he had with everything else that was wrong with him, he had emphysema. So for him to breathe was very very hard. You never knew from one day to the next. He could be great for two days, and then on the third day, he'd wake up, and you know, all you'd hear was wheezing, and he couldn't breathe, so it was it was tough."

The film highlights that days before the concert, Ozzy was warned he might not survive the performance, yet his determination to fulfill his commitment remained unshaken. The concert has been recognized as a significant event in heavy metal history, allowing Osbourne a poignant goodbye to industry peers and fans.

Following the performance, Sharon described a remarkable transformation in her husband, noting he seemed like a different person. "He was flying high again. He was so happy. Until the day he passed, he was still on that high, so thankful to everyone. It was so joyous for us to see because we hadn't seen him like that for years. He was laughing, telling jokes again. It was brilliant."

During the concert, Ozzy publicly thanked his wife for orchestrating the event over a two-year period. The film also features performances from other notable bands, including Metallica and Guns and Roses.

This revelation comes as the family navigates the creation of an AI avatar of Ozzy. Jack Osbourne recently defended the decision, stating it is not a "cash grab." The family has partnered with AI avatar company Hyperreal And Proto Hologram to create lifelike 3D holograms, which Sharon Osbourne indicated would allow fans to interact with an AI recreation of the singer. Jack explained on a podcast that the intention is to retain ownership and control of the digital IP and image, emphasizing that the AI is a closed system using only accurate information from or about Ozzy, rather than a connection to the internet.

Sharon Osbourne also addressed criticism on their podcast, comparing the advancement to the transition from propeller planes to jets, asserting that technology evolves and she is not seeking financial gain. She shared Ozzy's own past curiosities about how long he would be remembered after his passing, framing the AI project as a way to ensure his legacy continues for their family and grandchildren.
