Shark Swims Through Flooded New Jersey Streets During Nor'easter
A dogfish was spotted navigating submerged roads in Surf City as a powerful storm brought significant coastal flooding and high winds to the region.
A shark was observed swimming through flooded streets in Surf City, New Jersey, over the weekend as a strong nor'easter battered the East Coast.
The unusual sight was captured in a video showing the dorsal fin of a shark breaking the surface of inundated roadways. In the clip, a woman can be heard exclaiming, "Is that a little shark? Oh my God, he’s coming this way."
According to Dr. Greg Skomal, a white shark expert with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, the creature appears to be a dogfish, a common and generally harmless species known for not possessing sharp teeth. The shark was seen in the floodwaters near a residential driveway.
Surf City experienced significant flooding, with some areas inundated by up to four feet of water. The nor'easter brought high winds, with gusts reaching up to 70 mph in some locations, causing widespread power outages for thousands of residents along the coast.
