Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart recently stepped out with her husband and young daughter to celebrate Father's Day, appearing in high spirits despite controversy sparked by radio hosts who questioned her account of the harrowing event. Stewart, 35, narrowly escaped with her life after fighting off a great white shark at Sydney's Coogee Beach on June 13.

Stewart spent ten days in a coma following the attack, which resulted in the amputation of her left arm and significant damage to her left leg and right arm. She publicly recounted her survival story on "60 Minutes," detailing how the thought of her daughter motivated her to fight back against the four-meter shark. She described punching the shark repeatedly, noting she was more willing to lose her left arm.

Following the broadcast, Melbourne radio hosts Kate Langbroek, Brendan Fevola, and Nick Cody of 101.9 The Fox, suggested Stewart may have embellished her story, particularly her recollection of having time to consider which arm to use. Fevola specifically commented on her claim of choosing which arm to lose, calling it "a lot of mayo."

Stewart, who was seen enjoying a coastal park walk with her husband Fernando and one-year-old daughter August, stated she had not closely followed the radio hosts' comments. "I have been so busy with my rehabilitation and embracing being home with my family that I haven't had a chance to listen to the segment," she told Nine. "I have picked up the general sentiment from a few headlines, but I haven't given it much thought."

She emphasized the support she has received from the community, medical professionals, and first responders who aided in her rescue. "Everyone who was on that beach with me, my incredible medical team at St Vincent's, and every first responder who helped save my life that day, they know what happened. And so do I," Stewart said. "I am genuinely blown away by the support from Australians, and the wider community. It has meant so much to me and my family."

Stewart continues to navigate life with her new disability, acknowledging both good and bad days. "There's good days and bad days. For me, I'm still coming to terms that (my arm's) not there," she shared. "I get really frustrated. August will put up her hands and she'll want me to pick her up. I'm just desperate too, I just can't." She focuses on achieving "small wins," like regaining the ability to brush her teeth independently.
