Shannon Sharpe Responds to Travis Hunter's Wife's 'Two-Way' Comments
NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe addressed comments made by Leanna Lenee, wife of Jacksonville Jaguars player Travis Hunter, who called out Sharpe for his perceived criticism of her husband.
NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe has fired back at Travis Hunter’s wife, Leanna Lenee, after she publicly urged him to acknowledge Hunter as a "two-way" player. The exchange began after Hunter, a star for the Jacksonville Jaguars, achieved a rare feat on Sunday by catching a touchdown pass and recording an interception in the same game.
Lenee took to Instagram, posting a story that read, "Anyways… @shannonsharpe84 When you speak about my husband make sure you put ‘TWO WAY’ player in front." This was a direct response to what she perceived as criticism from Sharpe regarding Hunter's playing time and versatility.
During an episode of his show "Night Cap," Sharpe addressed Lenee's comments. "We’ve been abundantly clear that the likelihood of him playing every snap, every down, on both sides of the ball isn’t gonna happen," Sharpe stated, reading Lenee's message. He continued, "Play him on the defensive side of the football and play him in [offensive] packages. That’s what they did today… He played nine snaps [on offense against the Texans] That’s all we said!"
Sharpe acknowledged Lenee's support for her husband but clarified his position. "Hey, I understand that is your husband, and you’re supposed to ride for him. But if you’re gonna take what I said — and I appreciate you watching the show, that means more to me than anything… All I ever said was that he’s not playing every snap, on every down, on both sides of the ball. I believe he’s an every-down corner, and then you sprinkle him in packages," he explained. Sharpe expressed that he felt his commentary on Hunter's role was being misinterpreted.
