Shania Twain, 60, has addressed criticism she has received for her revealing stage outfits, asserting that her body is not a source of shame and that she is embracing her aging process. The remarks come after social media users called her outfits "trashy" and "tacky" following her performance at London's Wembley Stadium.

Twain reflected on past body image struggles, particularly during her 2019 Las Vegas residency, where she experienced a "body-image crisis" brought on by menopause. She admitted that at that time, she found it difficult to look in the mirror due to seeing "imperfections."

Physical Struggles and Menopause

During her previous Sin City residency, Twain sustained an injury where she tore two muscles in her thigh. She attributed this incident to dehydration, malnourishment from restrictive dieting, the Nevada climate, and the significant physical and emotional changes associated with menopause, which caused "bloat" and water retention issues. "It was just this perfect storm for disaster, and I ripped these muscles," she stated.

In recent years, Twain has shifted her perspective, learning to accept menopause and her changing body. "Vanity is not worth torture. I’m just learning every phase that I go through, and I adapt," she said. "I’m not trying to be 30. I’m not trying to be 25, and I won’t be ever again."

Response to Recent Criticism

Twain's recent performance at Wembley Stadium, where she wore a revealing black lace dress, sparked online debate. Users on TikTok and X criticized her attire, with comments ranging from "so tacky" to comparing it to items found in a "Frederick's of Hollywood catalog."

However, Twain remains unfazed by external comments and societal standards. "My body is not shameable. That courage comes with time and maturity," she insisted. "Body shaming is nothing that’s going to affect me."

She also faced similar trolling for her outfits at the 2023 CMT Awards, to which she responded on Instagram by stating, "For me fashion is a powerful tool that helps to convey my personality and express my creativity and other than getting to hang out with my friends for the night, it’s one of my favourite things about attending award shows! Life is too short to wear boring clothes!!"

Twain is committed to adapting to the natural changes of aging, acknowledging that she cannot perform physical activities like tennis with the same intensity as in her 30s due to past injuries and the physical limitations that come with age. She plans to continue embracing each phase of her life and expressing herself through her fashion choices.
