Shania Twain has revealed that open communication is the key to her 15-year marriage with husband Frédéric Thiébaud.
"He’s really good at reminding both of us that we have to keep communication open," Twain told People in an interview published Thursday. She described Thiébaud as "the greatest talker" who is "not inhibited at all with expressing his feelings, which is really wonderful in a man."
Twain, 60, noted that a partner who actively works to maintain open communication is a significant blessing. While she has a tendency to process marital issues by meditating, taking a walk, or playing her guitar alone, Thiébaud, 55, prefers to address problems immediately.
"And that’s the best advice. I mean, he’s not wrong," Twain said of her husband's approach.
She referred to their marriage as "forever true love" and stated, "This is the love I’m going to grow old with." She also reflected that it can take years to find the right person.
The couple began dating in 2009, following Twain's separation from her then-husband, Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who had an affair with Thiébaud’s ex-wife, Marie-Anne. Twain and Lange, who married in 1993, share a son, Eja, who is now 24.
Twain and Thiébaud became engaged in December 2010 and married on New Year's Day 2011 in Rincon, Puerto Rico.
