Actor Shane Richie, 62, and his wife Christie Goddard, 47, have officially divorced after 19 years of marriage, according to reports. The finalization of their divorce reportedly occurred on July 23, just six days prior to Richie's arrest for a drink-driving offense.
Richie was charged following an altercation at a Tesco petrol station in Harlow, Essex, on July 29. According to reports, he was challenged by staff after being seen vaping on the premises. Footage from the incident shows Richie arguing with a staff member, stating "It's not smoking" when confronted about the vape. He was later charged by police.
A source told The Sun that Goddard initiated the divorce, feeling "fed-up with his spiralling behaviour" and that "the divorce was her decision." The source added that "there was not one specific incident that led to the end, but a build-up of things." Goddard's primary concern remains their three children, and the source suggested she was "shocked" by Richie's arrest and hopes it serves as a "wake-up call."
Reports had previously raised questions about the state of their marriage, noting that Goddard was terminated as a director of their joint company, Bluebelle Skye Productions, in June. The couple met in 2001 and married in 2007. Richie, known for his role as Alfie Moon on EastEnders, has had previous relationships, including a marriage to Loose Women star Coleen Nolan from 1990 to 1999. Richie has previously admitted to infidelity during that marriage.
Richie is scheduled to appear in court next month in relation to the drink-driving charge. Vaping at petrol stations is not a specific offense but is prohibited by the companies due to safety concerns. Richie's representative has been contacted for comment.
