Shane Gillis Drops F-Bomb During Live SNL Sketch, Apologizes Later
The comedian's unscripted expletive during a Dr. Seuss-themed sketch led to a brief break in character and a later apology.
Shane Gillis, hosting "Saturday Night Live," inadvertently uttered an uncensored F-bomb during a live sketch on October 11, 2026. The incident occurred during a Dr. Seuss-inspired skit where Gillis played a character named Zachary, tasked with preventing Sam-I-Am (Andrew Dismukes) from offering green eggs and ham to his father, played by Mikey Day.
During the sketch, Gillis's character stated, "Bro, it's a non-starter. He said he doesn't f–king geez like em," before breaking character. The unexpected expletive drew laughter from the audience and a reaction from his fellow cast members. Gillis, visibly flustered, momentarily waved to the audience before attempting to steer the sketch back on course.
His co-star Mikey Day also played along with the gaffe, quipping, "You're a loser and you said a bad word," to which Gillis responded, "Yes, I did," eliciting further laughter.
Later, during the show's closing bows alongside musical guest Rosalia and the rest of the cast, Gillis addressed the incident. "And uh sorry about earlier, thank you guys very much. Have a good night," he said.
Despite the live broadcast featuring the expletive, "Saturday Night Live" censored the remark in online versions of the episode. As the show is rated TV-14 and airs outside the 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. window subject to FCC restrictions on profane content, it is unlikely to face regulatory fines.
This is not the first instance of an "SNL" host dropping an F-bomb on air; Sabrina Carpenter used the word twice during a musical performance on October 18, 2025, though those instances were also bleeped for some viewers.
Earlier in the broadcast, Gillis also drew a mixed reaction from the audience during his monologue with comments about female gym attire.
