Shane Gillis Apologizes for F-Bomb Slip During SNL Monologue
The comedian issued an apology at the end of the show after an accidental curse word in a sketch.
Shane Gillis apologized after an on-air curse word during his hosting duties on Saturday Night Live, which appeared to stun cast members and the audience. The comedian, 38, let slip the expletive during a Dr. Seuss sketch featuring cast members Mikey Day and Andrew Dismukes.
During the sketch, Gillis played the son of Cat in the Hat (Day) and questioned Sam I Am (Dismukes) about pressuring his father to eat green eggs and ham. Gillis said, "My dad said he doesn't like green eggs and ham. Drop it. Walk away." He continued, "Bro, it's a non-starter. He said he doesn't f***ing-" before pausing abruptly and raising his hands.
Some audience members reacted with gasps and screams to the slip. Dismukes placed a hand on Gillis's back, and after a brief laugh, Gillis continued the sketch. Day later referenced the incident within the skit, with his character telling Gillis's character, "You're a loser, and you said a bad word!" to which Gillis responded, "Yes, I did."
While the word was not censored during the live broadcast, it was muted when the sketch was later shared on SNL's X account. According to FCC guidelines, broadcasting indecent or profane programming during certain hours is a violation of federal law and can lead to fines or penalties for TV networks and stations.
At the conclusion of the show, Gillis thanked the audience and the music guest Rosalia, adding, "And sorry about earlier. Thank you guys very much. I had a good time."
