San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has definitively closed the door on the possibility of re-signing wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, despite a significant number of injuries impacting the team's receiving corps. When asked directly if he would consider bringing Aiyuk back given the current situation, Shanahan responded with a single word: "No."
Aiyuk is not currently on the 49ers' active roster, following a contentious offseason marked by public expressions of frustration from the wide receiver. His social media activity, which at one point appeared to include a jab at Shanahan after the coach was involved in a car accident, contributed to the strained relationship.
The 49ers are facing a critical shortage at the wide receiver position. Mike Evans sustained an ankle injury during a recent game, and Demarcus Robinson was also carted off the field with an ankle injury. Furthermore, Christian Kirk and De’Zhaun Stribling are already on injured reserve, and Ricky Pearsall is sidelined for the remainder of the season. Despite this dire need for healthy bodies at wide receiver, Shanahan's firm stance indicates that a reunion with Aiyuk is not under consideration.
