Pop music powerhouses Shakira and Beyoncé recently reunited at the 2026 World Cup, with a shared photograph showcasing their seemingly unchanged appearances over two decades.
Shakira, 49, posted a picture on Instagram Sunday featuring herself and Beyoncé, 44, embracing at the event. Fans noted their youthful looks, with comments praising their appearance, with some remarking they looked like "20 yr olds" and "twin sisters."
The singers, who first achieved widespread fame in the late 1990s, previously collaborated on the 2007 hit "Beautiful Liar." Shakira wore a Marine Serre outfit, while Beyoncé donned a white cropped blazer with lace leggings.
Shakira also performed during the World Cup final's half-time show, singing her song "Dai Dai" with Burna Boy. The performance drew praise, with some calling her a "timeless beauty." Her attire for the show was a custom Roberto Cavalli bodysuit embellished with Swarovski crystals.
"Dai Dai" is designated as the official anthem for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. Shakira partnered with Global Citizen and FIFA to support education for children in underserved communities, with record royalties from the song directed to the Education Fund. Sony Music pledged to match the first $250,000 raised.
The World Cup holds personal significance for Shakira, as it was where she met her ex-husband, former professional football player Gerard Piqué, in 2010. She performed "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" at the closing ceremony that year. Piqué was reportedly in attendance at the 2026 final with their two sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11.
Spain emerged as the champions of the 2026 World Cup, defeating Argentina in extra time. Shakira has performed at four of the last six World Cups, including ceremonies in Germany (2006), South Africa (2010), and Brazil (2014).
Shakira has previously spoken about her healing process following her separation from Piqué, detailing in a 2024 interview that writing music was instrumental in her grieving. In a June cover story for People, she described heartbreaks as lessons that ultimately make individuals stronger and expressed feeling more resilient than she had previously believed.
