Sephora to Relocate to Prime Meatpacking District Spot Next to Apple Store
The beauty retailer will move into a 4,200-square-foot space at 401 West 14th Street in early 2027, in a move that highlights the area's strong retail demand.
Sephora is relocating its Meatpacking District store to a new, larger location at 401 West 14th Street, a property owned by Taconic Partners and Nuveen Real Estate. The beauty retailer is set to open in the first quarter of 2027 in a 4,200-square-foot ground-floor space adjacent to an existing Apple store.
Michael Adelstein, vice president at Taconic, stated that Sephora's move underscores the significance of highly visible and trafficked locations for establishing a strong retail presence. He further noted that the Meatpacking District, particularly the corner of Ninth Avenue and 14th Street, is a globally recognized and sought-after shopping destination.
Retail availability in the Meatpacking District has seen a significant decrease, falling by six percentage points year-over-year, according to Cushman & Wakefield. This represents the sharpest contraction among submarkets tracked by the firm, accompanied by a 10.3% increase in average asking rents.
Taconic acquired the 65,000-square-foot building at 401 W. 14th Street in 2005 and has since transformed it into a prominent office and retail property. Jason Greenstone of Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord in the transaction, while Virginia Pittarelli of MONA represented Sephora.
