Senator David McCormick commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, highlighting the courage of the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who thwarted a terrorist attack.

McCormick, a Republican senator from Pennsylvania, stated that the actions of those aboard Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, demonstrated how Americans can unite in the face of adversity. He recounted that the 40 individuals aboard the flight, realizing their plane had been hijacked and was headed toward Washington D.C. after learning of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, made a collective decision to resist.

At 9:57 a.m. on the day of the attacks, Todd Beamer, an account manager for Oracle, uttered the phrase "Let's roll," signaling the passengers' charge towards the cockpit. Their six-minute struggle to retake the aircraft resulted in the plane crashing into a field near Shanksville at 10:03 a.m., preventing the terrorists from reaching their intended target.

McCormick drew parallels between the unity shown on Flight 93 and the broader national response in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. He expressed concern that this sense of common purpose has diminished, with current political discourse often turning disagreement into enmity. He urged Americans to remember that their national identity transcends political affiliations.

The senator also touched upon the importance of vigilance and strength in confronting threats, both domestic and international. He noted that modern advancements in technology are reshaping the nature of threats and the tools available to counter them, underscoring the need for a strong military equipped with the best technology.

Furthermore, McCormick stressed the importance of cultivating character and purpose, particularly among young Americans. He advocated for teaching stories of courage and service, encouraging the next generation to embrace responsibility and put others before themselves. He recommended visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville to connect with the events of that day and the sacrifices made.

McCormick concluded by stating that the heroes of Flight 93 exemplified the qualities America requires: the clarity to recognize evil, the strength to confront it, the unity to stand together, and the courage to prioritize country above self.
