Delaware Senator Christopher Coons was hospitalized Sunday after a car crash in which he was a passenger. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when a driver in another vehicle experienced a medical emergency and collided with several cars, including the one Coons occupied.
Coons, 62, shared news of the crash on the social platform X, stating that he sustained minor injuries for which he was treated at a local hospital. He has since returned home and anticipates a full recovery. No one was seriously injured in the multi-car accident, according to the Lewes Fire Department, though a total of six people sustained injuries.
Coons, a Democrat, has represented Delaware in the Senate since 2010. He is also vice chair of the Senate Ethics Committee. He is married to Annie Lingenfelter, and they have three children.
