During a contentious interview on Fox News, Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed asked host Jesse Watters if he was circumcised. The exchange escalated during a debate about gender-affirming care.
Watters initiated the discussion by asking El-Sayed, who is a doctor, if he believed it was acceptable for parents to allow their children to undergo such procedures. El-Sayed responded by questioning Watters' own circumcision status.
"Do you really wanna have this conversation? Are you circumcised?" El-Sayed asked. Watters replied that he was, but called it a personal question. El-Sayed then attempted to pivot the conversation back to what he characterized as a selective framing of transgender issues by the conservative media outlet.
"I just think it’s a problem that you think you get to decide what happens between a parent, a doctor and a patient. I’m just saying that, yes, circumcision is surgery on a kid’s ding-a-ling, so if you really wanna bring that up, you can. I just think you guys are really selective about how you want to talk about these things," El-Sayed stated. Watters dismissed the comparison, saying, "A circumcision is different than castration."
Watters concluded the segment by calling the discussion "wacky" and suggesting that Michigan voters would not support El-Sayed's views.
The interview also touched upon other topics, including immigration, taxation of the wealthy, and the Iran war, with Watters frequently interrupting El-Sayed.
