Sen. Ossoff Reiterates 'Zero Interest' in Presidential Run

Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., definitively stated Tuesday night that he has no interest in pursuing a presidential run in 2028, reaffirming his commitment to his current Senate role.

During a U.S. Senate debate hosted by the Atlanta Press Club at Georgia Public Broadcasting studios, Atlanta Journal-Constitution chief political reporter Greg Bluestein directly asked Ossoff if he would pledge to serve his full six-year term if re-elected. "Yes, I will," Ossoff responded. "I have zero interest in running for president. I'm not running for president. I'm running for re-election to the Senate."

Ossoff, who has served in the Senate since early 2021, was pressed on the issue after his name has surfaced in discussions about potential presidential contenders. His Republican opponent in the Georgia Senate race, Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., suggested during the debate that Ossoff is indeed planning a presidential bid.

The incumbent senator faces Collins, a U.S. House representative since early 2023, in the upcoming election. The state's political landscape has seen shifts, with a Republican governor and two Democratic senators currently holding office. Georgia voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2024, and for Joe Biden in 2020.

President Donald Trump has endorsed Collins, while former President Barack Obama has endorsed Ossoff.
