Sen. Collins Vows No Intimidation After Office Vandalism; Rival Remains Silent
Vandals spray vulgar message on Maine constituent office, prompting condemnation from Republicans and calls for Democratic nominee Troy Jackson to speak out.
Republican Sen. Susan Collins stated she will not be "intimidated" after her constituent office in Biddeford, Maine, was vandalized on Monday with the words "Trump Whore" sprayed on its entry doors. The incident is under investigation by the Biddeford police.
Collins' chief of staff, Katie Brown, issued a statement affirming that "vandalism is unacceptable" and that the senator and her staff "will not be intimidated." The office, she added, "will continue serving the people of Maine."
Democratic challenger Troy Jackson, the former Maine Senate president and the Democratic nominee for the Senate race, has not responded to repeated requests from Fox News Digital for comment on the vandalism.
Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker characterized the incident as "another example of the radical left's aggression and inability to have civil discourse," adding, "Our political environment should not tolerate this volatile and disgusting behavior."
Former Maine state Rep. Austin Theriault, the 2024 Republican congressional nominee, told Fox News Digital that there should be "no hesitation to condemn these sorts of actions, regardless of where you are on the political spectrum." Theriault questioned whether Maine Democrats have an "identity problem" due to Jackson's silence.
Collins is seeking her sixth term representing Maine in the U.S. Senate. Her race against Jackson is considered a critical contest for Democrats aiming to regain the Senate majority.
This is not the first time Collins' Biddeford office has been the site of demonstrations. In July, protesters marched to the office to protest Collins' support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) funding, following a fatal shooting by ICE agents in the same city.
