Selma Blair Seen in Los Angeles Weeks After New York Arrest
The actress, who has pleaded not guilty to assault charges, was spotted running errands in Studio City.
Selma Blair has been seen out and about in Los Angeles, appearing healthy and in good spirits just weeks after her arrest in New York City. The actress, 54, was spotted on Monday running errands in Studio City, sporting a pale blue denim button-up shirt tucked into white jeans, accessorized with sunglasses and a green handbag.
This sighting comes two weeks after Blair was arrested on October 11 and accused of assaulting members of a Delta aircraft crew, as well as a Port Authority police officer, in New York. According to reports, the incident aboard the flight involved allegations of punching, biting, and attempting to open a plane door mid-flight. Pilots reportedly requested medical assistance upon landing.
The day after the alleged incident, Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault. Her attorney stated that Blair had missed several doses of medication prescribed for her multiple sclerosis (MS), which can cause severe neurological symptoms. The legal team also issued a statement clarifying that Blair experienced a medical emergency on the flight, denying any intention to harm anyone or attempt to open the aircraft door. They emphasized that her MS diagnosis, public since 2018, is legitimate and that she lives with daily pain and a neurological condition called pseudobulbar affect, which can influence how medical episodes appear to others.
Blair's lawyer, Shawn Barnes, further explained in court that the actress had a demanding work schedule leading up to the flight and experienced a fall during the journey, hitting her head. These factors, combined with altitude, reportedly led to severe confusion and disorientation. Barnes asserted that the alleged assault was not intentional.
In a statement, a Delta representative said the airline has "zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."
Separately, Blair has spoken about her past struggles with self-medicating with alcohol to manage MS symptoms and nerve pain. In an interview recorded before her arrest, she told Jenny McCarthy's podcast that she began using alcohol at a young age for headaches, anxiety, and nerve pain, acknowledging that while she doesn't maintain a strictly sober lifestyle, drinking is something she cannot do. She stated, "I recognize that alcohol is not good medicine for me."
A previous incident in 2016 saw Blair removed from a flight from Mexico to Los Angeles after reportedly mixing medication with alcohol. She is scheduled for a hearing in the current matter on January 19.
