Selma Blair Released on Bail Amid Assault Charges from Flight Incident
The actress faces potential prison time after an alleged altercation on a Delta flight.
Selma Blair has been released on bail following her arrest for an alleged violent incident aboard a Delta flight. The actress is facing up to seven years in prison if convicted of the charges, which include assault.
Appearing before Judge Indira Kahn, Blair was granted bail set at $20,000 cash, $60,000 bond, or a $60,000 partially secured bond. Her defense attorneys are Shawn Barnes and Joshua Retzus. The case has been adjourned until January 19, 2027, and an order of protection has been issued for the hospital nurse Blair allegedly assaulted.
According to reports, Blair was arrested Sunday after allegedly punching one flight attendant, biting another, and attempting to open the aircraft's door while on a flight from Los Angeles to New York City. The incident occurred on a Delta flight arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where law enforcement awaited the plane's landing. Blair was restrained on board and taken into custody upon arrival. She was subsequently transported to a hospital for evaluation.
While en route, Blair also allegedly kicked a Port Authority police officer. Once at the hospital, she reportedly assaulted a nurse who subsequently pressed charges. The FBI is currently investigating the alleged assault that took place aboard the aircraft. Blair faces federal assault allegations in addition to two state assault charges related to the alleged attacks on the officer and nurse.
A representative for Blair stated that the actress experienced a medical emergency that led to her alleged conduct, adding that she received immediate medical attention upon landing and is in stable condition. Delta Air Lines condemned the alleged behavior, asserting a zero-tolerance policy for unruly conduct to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
This incident is not the first involving Blair on an aircraft. A decade prior, in June 2016, she was removed from a flight on a stretcher after a disturbing episode aboard a plane traveling from Cancun, Mexico, to Los Angeles. During that flight, while traveling with her young son and his father, Blair reportedly began crying and made alarming statements. Witnesses said she had been drinking wine before making remarks such as, “He beats me. He’s going to kill me.” Nurses aboard that flight attempted to assist her, and the pilot alerted authorities to concerns about a possible mixture of alcohol and medication.
