Selma Blair was recently photographed enjoying a beach vacation in Los Cabos, Mexico, approximately one year after announcing her remission from multiple sclerosis (MS).
Blair, 54, was observed wading into the ocean wearing a patterned bikini and goggles. She later donned a sheer polka-dot cover-up before continuing her time on the shore.
In October 2018, Blair disclosed her August 2018 diagnosis of MS on Instagram, noting that she had been experiencing symptoms for years. At the time, she described her condition as leaving her disabled, prone to falling, dropping objects, and experiencing memory fog. She also mentioned challenges with her left side and difficulties playing with her son.
Following treatment, Blair was discharged from the hospital in July 2019, after which she debuted a shaved head. A year after her initial diagnosis, she shared a photo of herself in a red bikini on Instagram.
Blair announced her remission in August 2021 during a virtual appearance at a Television Critics Association panel. She attributed her remission to stem cell treatment, stating that it took about a year for inflammation and lesions to subside. At that time, she remarked on a newfound appreciation for life, explaining that she had previously been scared and was just beginning to find self-identity, set boundaries, and manage her time and energy.
In August 2025, Blair reiterated to People magazine at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards that she was “truly in remission” and had been feeling great for about a year. She expressed that she was finally well enough to have stamina and energy, making going out less daunting.
