Selena Gomez has sold her Encino, California mansion for $5.4 million, with the transaction closing on Tuesday. The sale comes as the actress and singer, 34, shared a post on Instagram hinting at future family plans. Gomez had initially listed the 11,500-square-foot property, featuring six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, for $6.49 million in May.
The Encino home, purchased by Gomez in 2020 for $4.89 million, was previously owned by rock icon Tom Petty. The property served as a backdrop for her unscripted cooking show, "Selena + Chef," and her Rare Beauty makeup video tutorials.
Earlier this week, Gomez posted a photo on her Instagram Story interacting with a baby, accompanied by the caption "One day." This post follows previous discussions where Gomez revealed that due to medical reasons, including a long-term battle with lupus, she is unable to carry her own children. She has expressed openness to surrogacy or adoption as paths to motherhood.
In 2025, shortly after marrying music producer Benny Blanco, Gomez referenced her desire for motherhood in relation to her role in "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place." She shared that her character, Alex Russo, had become a mother in the series finale, stating, "hopefully one day that'll be me."
Gomez previously shared with Vanity Fair in September 2024 that her inability to conceive naturally was something she had to "grieve." She cited medical issues that would endanger both her life and the baby's. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to becoming a mother, viewing surrogacy and adoption as significant possibilities. She stated that regardless of the method, the child "will be mine."
In 2024, Gomez had also spoken about her plan to adopt a child if she had not met a partner by age 35. Benny Blanco has also expressed his desire to start a family with Gomez, telling Howard Stern last year that having a child with Gomez is his "next goal."
The Encino estate was described in its listing as a "private celebrity compound" with "distinctive architecture" and "exceptional attention to detail." Features included a gourmet chef's kitchen, wine cellar, gym, massage room, creative work area, vocal booth, multiple living spaces, and guest suites. The exterior boasted a swimming pool, hot tub, covered barbecue area, cabana with a bar, fire pit, and cascading water features. The property was originally built in 1989.
Gomez recently acquired a $35 million mansion in Beverly Hills with Blanco in December 2024, less than two years prior to the Encino sale.
