Selena Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, has reignited rumors of a rift with her daughters after posting an ambiguous message on social media.
Teefey, 50, shared a post on Monday that appeared to be directed at her daughters, Gomez, 33, and Gracie Teefey, 13. The post read, "My greatest accomplishments, love me or not. They are the coolest. I [hope] one day they will see what a bad a** I am and love me back as much as I love them. I’m just mom. [A mom] who never gives up when they throw me in the trash. I tell ya, mom you’re doing it wrong, maybe so, we will see. But no matter what I got your back." Accompanying the text was a meme featuring a doll in a garbage can with the overlay, "Me when I have to run the business I manifested."
Teefey also shared a quote that read, "She outgrew what drained her." These posts led some social media users to interpret them as a swipe at Gomez.
However, Teefey addressed the speculation in a comment on the post, stating, "Girl. It's [a typical] 'mom's not cool' joke. Calm down lol.'"
Despite Teefey's clarification, the post was widely shared and discussed on X, formerly Twitter, drawing criticism from some fans who accused her of airing personal matters publicly. One user commented, "One must keep their personal life to themselves and realize their daughter is too big of a celebrity to throw such tantrums." Another wrote, "She loves airing dirty laundry on the internet. She knows Selena gets dragged by haters for no reason, yet she still posts things like this. It’s always passive-aggressive."
This incident follows a report from last year when Teefey was reportedly "shattered" after claims she was snubbed when Gomez chose her grandfather to walk her down the aisle at her wedding to Benny Blanco. Teefey publicly refuted those claims at the time, calling them "ludicrous" and describing the event as "heartwarming" and "a fairytale come true."
Teefey co-founded the mental health organization Wondermind with Gomez and Daniella Pierson in 2021 and currently serves as its CEO.
