Selena Gomez Reveals Future Plans for Motherhood
Two years after disclosing fertility challenges, the singer and businesswoman expresses her desire to eventually have children through surrogacy or adoption.
Selena Gomez has shared her aspirations to start a family, stating she will "eventually" have her own children. The 34-year-old entertainer and businesswoman made these remarks during the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City, offering a personal insight into her future.
Gomez, who has been open about her medical conditions affecting her fertility, previously revealed in a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair that she is unable to carry her own children due to health issues that would pose risks to both her and the baby's life.
During the festival, when asked about the accomplishments of her mental health-focused non-profit, the Rare Impact Fund, Gomez spoke about overcoming personal challenges. "I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while," she recalled.
She added that while her path to motherhood might differ from her initial expectations, she remains determined to become a mother. "It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it," Gomez said. "I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone." She expressed gratitude for options like surrogacy and adoption, calling them "huge possibilities" for her. "At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby," she affirmed.
Gomez, who married Benny Blanco in September 2025, also reflected on her business ventures and leadership philosophy. She emphasized the importance of good leadership beginning with how individuals treat one another, stating a zero-tolerance policy for disrespect within her company. "Everyone in my office, if anyone is disrespecting someone, it does not fly for me," she asserted.
She highlighted the growth of her company, noting its expansion from a small team to a larger organization with employees and interns. Gomez also stressed the value of open communication and finding common ground, even amidst disagreements, stating, "I think there's a way to do that. I'm really lucky. I have a great team that helps me go through any of those hard moments."
