Investors have filed a lawsuit accusing Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and Wondermind co-founder Daniella Pierson of defrauding them of $1.2 million by misrepresenting the state of their mental health company.
The lawsuit alleges that the founders falsely presented Wondermind, established in 2021, as a successful and well-resourced venture poised for profitability. Investors claim they were unaware that the company was in financial distress and on the verge of collapse.
According to court documents, the plaintiffs were led to believe that Gomez, with her significant global platform, would actively lead marketing efforts. They were also reportedly told that Pierson was an experienced executive with established partnerships with major financial institutions like JPMorgan and Fidelity, and that revenue-generating initiatives, including advertising deals and a new app, were already in development.
The investors assert these representations were false. The lawsuit claims Gomez did not fulfill her contractual obligations, promised partnerships did not exist, and key initiatives, including the app, never materialized. The founders allegedly concealed the company's deteriorating financial situation for over three years.
Information about Wondermind's alleged internal turmoil and financial crisis emerged in May 2025, following an article by The Cut that detailed behind-the-scenes issues. Anonymous employees had previously accused Teefey of erratic behavior, with one staff member describing her office as a "drug den." Teefey has denied these specific allegations.
The lawsuit states that the revelations in The Cut's expose confirmed for the investors that the company's operations, personnel, and financial prospects as presented by the founders were inaccurate and that "there was no legitimate enterprise in the works, much less a lucrative one."
Seeking a jury trial, the investors are requesting rescission of their investments, damages, legal costs, and other relief under securities fraud and breach of contract claims.
