The singer revealed her struggles to quit vaping and its impact on her voice, addressing online criticism.
Selena Gomez has disclosed that vaping nicotine has affected her voice and shared her difficulties in quitting the habit. The singer, 34, addressed online criticism regarding her voice in an Instagram video posted Sunday.
"I'm not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot and just so everyone knows that's somewhat vaped, nicotine is so hard to quit," Gomez stated. She advised against vaping, calling it "so stupid" and noting that it has altered her voice. She acknowledged that listeners might not enjoy her voice but stated she doesn't mind as long as they choose not to listen.
Gomez expressed hope that she can maintain her cessation from vaping, describing the process as very challenging. She offered encouragement to others facing similar struggles, saying, "know if you are going through something, you can get through it too. It sucks."
The singer also touched upon her personal life, having recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary with husband Benny Blanco. She shared her future aspirations for starting a family, stating her intention to have children eventually. Gomez and Blanco have been together for over three years, with their relationship beginning in the summer of 2023, followed by an engagement in December 2024 and their wedding the subsequent year. Their wedding ceremony took place at a converted palm tree farm in Santa Barbara, California.
This disclosure about her voice follows previous comments made by Gomez regarding her health and fertility. Two years prior, she revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that due to medical reasons, she is unable to carry her own children. She explained that significant medical issues could put both her life and a baby's in jeopardy, a reality she had to come to terms with. Despite this, Gomez has expressed a strong desire to become a mother, exploring options such as surrogacy or adoption. She stated that regardless of the method, the child would be hers.
