Second Lady Usha Vance Navigates Near-Tumble With Newborn

Second Lady Usha Vance demonstrated composure while carrying her two-month-old son, Alec, as she nearly stumbled while descending the stairs of a Marine Two helicopter at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Monday. Vance, 40, lost her footing after missing a step while exiting the aircraft but quickly regained her balance by grasping the handrails.

Vance, dressed in a plaid skirt, brown top, and heeled boots, smiled after recovering her balance. The incident was captured on video and shared widely on social media, drawing praise for Vance's handling of the situation while caring for her infant.

Some social media users also commented on the reaction of the military personnel present, noting that none moved to assist Vance. One user expressed surprise, asking, "Not one person moved to help." Another questioned, "Why did no one help her off? She had a baby with her…"

Vice President JD Vance exited the helicopter after his wife, carrying their daughter. The couple were then escorted to Air Force Two for travel to Alaska for a campaign rally.

Usha Vance grabbed the railings of the staircase before regaining composure with a smile on her face.

Usha and JD Vance welcomed their fourth child, Alec Neel Vance, in July. They also have three other children: Ewan, nine; Vivek, six; and Mirabel, four. Vice President Vance publicly thanked the medical staff at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit following the birth.

JD exited the helicopter after his wife, holding their daughter in his arms.
