The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has decided against expelling LSU after its leaders met Thursday to discuss the possibility of removing the university from the league over its attempt to add former NFL players to its roster. The conference postponed a vote on LSU's membership after Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin did not add former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to the team's roster this week.

Wright and Harris had previously played for Kiffin at Ole Miss last season before signing with NFL teams as undrafted free agents. They then enrolled at LSU this summer, in what was seen as an unprecedented effort to return to college football.

Despite initially planning to vote on LSU's expulsion, SEC leaders and commissioner Greg Sankey met via videoconference on Thursday to address the situation. The conference stated that "discussions will continue as the conference and its member universities work toward an appropriate resolution."

The SEC had filed an amendment to a federal lawsuit against LSU in Alabama last Thursday, alleging that Kiffin's comments contrasted with the silence from LSU's president and athletic director. The suit claimed this indicated a "lack of institutional control over the athletics program at LSU," as required by SEC rules.

LSU had officially listed only 103 players on its 105-man roster for its Week 1 victory over Clemson, as Kiffin held off on adding Wright or Harris amid the ongoing legal dispute with the SEC.

A preliminary injunction issued by a Louisiana judge last week had cleared the way for LSU to potentially roster former NFL players. However, LSU President Wade Rousse confirmed in a letter to SEC Commissioner Sankey on Wednesday that the university had not added Harris, a former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman, or Wright, a former Cleveland Browns tight end, to the season's roster.

Instead, LSU added two other players, cornerback Aidan Anding and defensive end Gabriel Reliford, to its roster. According to Rousse, this development made the issue moot, as the team is now in compliance with SEC rules by not rostering Wright or Harris.

"The roster is now locked for the season," Rousse stated. "LSU complied with SEC rules. This issue is moot."
