Seann William Scott Turns 50: From 'American Pie' Star to Dedicated Father
The actor, known for his role as Steve Stifler, embraces fatherhood and has shifted towards darker roles while continuing to earn significant royalties.
Seann William Scott, widely recognized for his portrayal of Steve Stifler in the 'American Pie' franchise, is celebrating his 50th birthday. Two decades after his career-defining role, Scott's life has transformed significantly, marked by a greater focus on fatherhood and a pivot towards more dramatic and darker roles.
Scott is now dedicated to raising his six-year-old daughter, Frankie, and has stated he prioritizes roles that allow him to be present in her life. This shift is a departure from his earlier career, which involved filming a string of back-to-back comedies such as 'Dude, Where’s My Car?', 'Role Models', 'Road Trip', and 'Final Destination'. He expressed that he is content with his career trajectory, stating, "I’m happy that I was able to get things going early on in my career, and to now be at the point where I don’t feel like I have anything to prove. I just want to make a fun little project every once in a while, then go home to my daughter."
He recently shared with The Independent that he sought a career change after playing characters he described as 'total morons' in many of his films. His recent work includes roles in films like 'Dolly,' a slasher film, and dramatic and horror projects such as 'Bloodline,' 'Already Gone,' and 'The Wrath of Becky.' Scott revealed a long-standing desire for more challenging roles, citing 'A Clockwork Orange' as an influence and expressing a wish to be like Malcolm McDowell. He fell into comedy roles unexpectedly, as he did not consider himself naturally funny.
Despite being reportedly paid a modest sum for 'American Pie,' Scott has continued to benefit financially from the franchise. The film, which cost $11 million to produce, grossed $235 million globally. Financial disclosures from the past year, made during a custody and child support dispute with his ex-wife Olivia Korenberg, revealed a substantial monthly income of approximately $110,000. This includes about $45,000 in royalties and $31,000 in dividends and interest payments. He also reported significant assets, including stocks, bonds, and real estate.
Scott is currently involved in the American sitcom 'Shifting Gears' alongside Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, a role that accommodates his desire to balance work and family life. He has expressed a reluctance to have his daughter watch the 'American Pie' movies, joking that she is too young to understand them.
Reflecting on his 50th birthday, Scott remarked, "Maybe it’s time for me to grow up, because I still feel like a big kid. Though that’s what makes me an awesome dad."
