Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay contemplated leaving the team to pursue media opportunities following a difficult 2022 season, but a conversation with his wife, Veronika Khomyn, ultimately convinced him to continue coaching.

McVay, who has led the Rams since 2017 and experienced only one losing season prior to the 2022 campaign, described the aftermath of the 5-12 season as a "dark" period. In an interview that aired on "60 Minutes," McVay stated he was ready to "run away from coaching and hide behind a convenient narrative of some media opportunities."

He recalled discussing the daunting task of the upcoming 2023 season with Khomyn, even suggesting he might take a year off. According to McVay, Khomyn responded by saying, "That never sounded like the kind of leader you wanted to be."

This statement served as a significant "wake-up call," McVay explained, acknowledging that he would have been quitting if he had pursued the media route due to his inability to handle the losses. The Rams have since rebounded from the 2022 season, achieving consecutive 10-7 records and reaching the NFC Championship game in 2025, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Rams have made significant moves to bolster their roster for the current season, acquiring Myles Garrett via trade and bringing Aaron Donald out of retirement. The team lost its Week 1 game in Australia against the San Francisco 49ers and is set to face the New York Giants in Week 2.
