Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's promised reality show, "Great American Road Trip," has not yet premiered, despite his earlier claims that it would launch in June. The five-part series, intended to chronicle his family's cross-country journey in anticipation of America's 250th birthday, has not released any episodes on YouTube.
Duffy, a former reality television personality, first teased the show on "Fox & Friends" in May, describing it as a series that would feature his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, and their nine children. He also offered advice on planning road trips for various budgets.
The show reportedly secured at least $2 million in donations from companies like Boeing and Toyota. Critics have raised concerns due to these companies being overseen and regulated by Duffy's Department of Transportation. The backlash intensified amid soaring gas prices and several high-profile aviation incidents occurring under his department's purview.
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg criticized Duffy, suggesting his claims that the left opposed the show because they disliked celebrating America were unfounded. Duffy has defended the project, stating that no taxpayer money was used for production and neither he nor his family received any salary or royalties.
Reports from Politico and The Bulwark have indicated that no episodes have been released. A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation told media outlets that the team is "putting the finishing touches on the production" and that they look forward to sharing the final product soon, noting that America's 250th birthday is a year-long celebration.
