Sean 'Diddy' Combs' federal prison release date has been revised again, now scheduled for January 24, 2028, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons records. This latest adjustment follows a reported prison brawl that led to Combs being placed in solitary confinement at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI), Fort Dix, in New Jersey.
Federal Bureau of Prisons officials have declined to comment on the specifics of Combs' confinement or the reasons for his changing release dates, citing privacy and security concerns. News of the adjustment comes approximately one week after reports surfaced of the fight involving another inmate. Sources claim the altercation began after the other inmate insulted Combs, escalating from pushing to punches. Prison guards intervened, separating the individuals, and Combs was reportedly sent to solitary confinement.
Combs' initial release date was set for May 8, 2028. However, the date has undergone several modifications. In October, it was moved to April 25, 2028, due to the FIRST STEP Act, a bipartisan prison reform law. It was later adjusted to April 15, 2028, and then again to February 23, 2028. The most recent change places his release in January 2028.
Following a trial last July, Combs was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges but found guilty of two lesser charges related to transportation for prostitution. He was sentenced to four years and two months in federal prison, along with supervised release and a $500,000 fine.
This period of incarceration has also coincided with renewed public attention on a resurfaced clip from the 2003 MTV Movie Awards. The footage shows a then-33-year-old Combs inviting a 12-year-old Daveigh Chase, the late actress known for her role in 'The Ring' and 'Donnie Darko,' to an after-party. Chase died on June 16 from AIDS, with chronic polysubstance use also cited as a contributing factor in her autopsy report. The clip has drawn criticism online, with many users expressing concern about the interaction given Chase's age at the time. Combs' representatives have previously stated that the exchange was misinterpreted and part of a scripted segment.
