Scottish MSP Quits Reform UK Party to Sit as Independent

Scottish Parliament Member (MSP) Amanda Bland has resigned from the Reform UK Scotland party and will now serve as an independent. Her decision relegates the party to become the third-largest group in the Scottish Parliament, now holding one fewer seat than the Labour party.

Bland, who represents the Central Scotland and Lothians West regions as a list MSP, has not yet made a public statement regarding her departure. Reform UK Scotland has called for her resignation from parliament. A spokesperson for the party stated, "Amanda Bland should reflect on her reasons for choosing to isolate herself from that team of capable individuals. It is incumbent on her to resign as a regional MSP for Central Scotland and Lothians West and allow her constituents to be represented by the next Reform candidate on that list."

Under the rules of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood), if a list MSP resigns, they are typically replaced by the party's next candidate on the election list. Bland, a former primary school teacher and police officer, was among 17 Reform UK candidates elected to the Scottish Parliament in May, marking a significant electoral success for the party in Scotland. At that election, the party secured joint second place with Labour, trailing behind the Scottish National Party (SNP), which holds 58 seats.
