A Scottish grandmother who won a £4 million mansion in a prize draw initially thought she had won a horse. Mary Dickson, 72, from Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, discovered she was the winner of a four-bedroom property near the fishing village of Coverack in Cornwall.
Dickson had entered the Omaze prize draw with a £15 ticket. Upon arriving at a special location for the prize reveal, she turned a corner and saw a horse in a field, leading her to believe that was her prize. It was only moments later that she realized the horse was not the actual prize and that she had won the substantial coastal home.
"When I realised I’d actually won a house, not a horse, I quickly said thank you very much!" Dickson said. Her husband, John Dickson, 76, was driving when the Omaze team first attempted to contact Mary, but she had no phone signal. She had also been ignoring calls from an unknown number, assuming they were unsolicited. The couple eventually received a text message, prompting Mary to verify the company's legitimacy online before returning their call.
"They texted me, so I checked them out online, I thought I’d better call back. Thank goodness I did," she added.
The newly won property boasts panoramic sea views, floor-to-ceiling windows, a swimming pool, stables, and direct access to Porthbeer Cove. The couple expressed their excitement about hosting family for Christmas at their new home.
