The 2026 BMW Championship, the second event in the FedEx Cup playoffs, commenced on Thursday, August 20, with 50 golfers vying for a spot in the final tournament. The event is being held at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, and will conclude on August 23.
Scottie Scheffler, the current leader in the playoff standings, enters the BMW Championship with a significant points advantage after winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week. Scheffler holds a 1,447-point lead over second-place player Matt Fitzpatrick. Last week's event saw the field of 70 golfers reduced by 20, with notable players such as Jordan Spieth and Max Homa failing to make the cut.
Rory McIlroy, another prominent golfer, experienced a challenging week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing 66th out of 68 competitors. Following the conclusion of the BMW Championship, the field will be further narrowed to the top 30 players for the final FedEx Cup playoff, the TOUR Championship.
