Scottie Scheffler Confronts Heckler, Concedes Putt at Presidents Cup

During Sunday singles at the Presidents Cup, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler admonished a fan who shouted during the swing of his International Team opponent, Nico Echavarria. The incident occurred on the par-4 14th hole at Medinah Country Club.

Echavarria, who was down three holes through 13, was addressing his tee shot when the spectator yelled, "Go Scottie." The disruption caused Echavarria to falter, sending his ball wide. Scheffler, walking toward the gallery, immediately stated, "There’s no place for that."

Further demonstrating sportsmanship, Scheffler later conceded a long par putt for Echavarria after his third shot landed on the back of the green, approximately 30 feet from the hole. The hole was halved, and Scheffler went on to win his match. The U.S. team ultimately secured the Presidents Cup with a 17-13 victory over the International team.

When asked about the incident post-match, Scheffler expressed a desire to move past it. "To be honest with you, I don’t even really want to talk about it," he told NBC. "I think there’s no real place for that in our game. I think we just leave it at that."

Scheffler had previously been reserved about being benched on Saturday, declining to speak with the media until after his round on Sunday. "I mean, do you want to talk about today’s match?" he asked reporters when questioned about the decision. "I just played some golf out there. Do you want to talk about that?"
