Former Netflix chairman Scott Stuber and model Molly Sims are suing luxury home designer Dan Scotti for $1.4 million, alleging that improperly installed windows have caused significant defects in their custom-built Hamptons residence. The couple claims the issues have led to condensation problems and necessitate the replacement of windows in their Sagaponack, New York, home.
According to court documents filed in Suffolk County, Stuber and Sims hired Scotti, who had previously worked on their Los Angeles home and another property in East Hampton, to design and construct a single-family residence with an attached guest house. Their agreement with Scotti for this project was for $1.25 million.
The couple's lawsuit asserts that the custom floor-to-ceiling windows were inadequately engineered and improperly installed by a subcontractor. In 2022, their property management company discovered condensation forming on the inside frames of the windows. Court papers state that Scotti allegedly acknowledged the condensation issue, noting it occurred when outside temperatures dropped significantly. Although Scotti reportedly installed dehumidifiers to address the problem, the lawsuit claims the condensation persisted.
The suit alleges that the inadequate windows and their improper installation caused "building envelope defects," referring to the barrier between the interior and exterior of the home. Stuber and Sims are seeking damages for breach of contract, breach of warranty, and negligence. They contend that Scotti failed to fulfill obligations outlined in their agreement, which included retaining an architect, providing design services, managing contractors, and maintaining insurance.
Scotti, who has previously designed homes featured in Architectural Digest, has filed third-party claims against the home's architect, a construction company, and an installation company. The case has been in litigation since 2024. Scotti has stated he "proudly stand[s] behind [his] work."
Stuber is the former chairman of Netflix and recently relaunched United Artists at Amazon MGM. Sims is a model, actress, and host of the podcast "Lipstick on the Rim."
