Scott Speedman Balances Three Hit Shows Amid Personal Life
The actor, known for 'Felicity' and 'Grey's Anatomy,' navigates a demanding schedule while prioritizing family.
Actor Scott Speedman is currently managing a demanding workload, simultaneously filming for three television series: "R.J. Decker," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Running Point." This intense period of work comes as Speedman also focuses on his personal life, including his young children.
Speedman, who gained prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s as Ben Covington in J.J. Abrams' "Felicity," plays a newspaper photographer and ex-convict turned private investigator in "R.J. Decker." The show, inspired by a Carl Hiaasen novel, shoots in Wilmington, North Carolina, with occasional filming in Florida. "Down there, it’s always a run-and-gun," Speedman said of filming in the Sunshine State, where he spent part of his youth.
He also reprises his role as transplant surgeon Nick Marsh on "Grey's Anatomy," a character introduced in 2021. Additionally, Speedman is filming "Running Point," a Netflix sports comedy where he portrays the owner of a hockey team. He described his current work-life pace as "truly wild" but also enjoyable.
Despite his busy career, Speedman emphasizes the importance of family. He recently took a brief trip to Los Angeles to surprise his children, expressing a desire not to miss key milestones like his daughter starting school. He and his fiancée, Lindsay Rae Hofmann, a co-founder of the luxury swimwear line Juillet, have two children: daughter Pfeiffer Lucia, born in 2021, and son Indy Roy, born in 2024.
Raised in Toronto, Speedman was a competitive swimmer and competed in the Canadian Junior National Swim team. He moved to Los Angeles for "Felicity" and has since built a varied acting career.
Speedman has expressed a preference for a less public persona in an era dominated by social media. He noted that he was taught to "show as little as possible" to the public, a philosophy that contrasts with current trends. He believes that some of the most interesting performers are introverts who may take longer to reveal their full selves, rather than those who are constantly online.
When not working, Speedman enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his family in their Silver Lake neighborhood. He has fond memories of visiting Big Sur, California, which inspired his daughter's name, Pfeiffer. He also maintains a connection to New York City, where he first pursued acting, and hopes his children will experience the city as well.
Reflecting on his career, Speedman finds a sense of fulfillment in his current multifaceted role, balancing his professional commitments with his desire to be present for his children.
