Scott Jennings calls Trump's 1,300-word critique of Bill Maher 'miraculous'

Conservative pundit Scott Jennings described President Donald Trump's extensive Truth Social post criticizing comedian Bill Maher as "miraculous." Jennings made the comments during an appearance on CNN Monday night, addressing Trump's 1,300-word social media message posted the previous Sunday.

In the post, Trump attacked Maher, calling him a "complete, total loser" and a "sleazebag." The criticism followed Maher's remarks on his HBO show "Real Time," where he commented on Trump's low approval ratings and shared anecdotes from a recent White House dinner.

Jennings, speaking on CNN's "NewsNight" with guest host Michael Smerconish, defended Trump's communication style. "It's sort of miraculous that the president of the United States issues such detailed missives about all sorts of things going on in our culture," Jennings said. He characterized the post as an example of Trump's candid nature, stating, "You can call Donald Trump a lot of things; one thing you can never say about him is we don't know what's on his mind."

During the CNN segment, commentator Van Jones interjected with a remark about Trump's mental state, which Jennings dismissed. Jennings also expressed a measure of appreciation for Maher, noting, "I have to say, I kinda like Bill Maher. I mean, Bill Maher has been basically a rational actor... a very rational guy, so I don't know why he's so upset with him."

On his "Real Time" program Friday, Maher had asserted that Trump "has the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever." He also recounted a dinner with Trump on Oct. 15, which he said lasted longer than Katie Zacharia's brief tenure as press secretary. Maher also offered a seemingly positive assessment of Trump's demeanor during that dinner, stating, "When he's in that White House, he looks you in the eye, he never interrupts, he never gets mad, he listens."

Maher directly addressed criticism for meeting with Trump, saying, "I like these dinners." However, Trump's lengthy Truth Social post was a direct response to Maher's comments about his approval ratings.

Trump's post targeted Maher's show on HBO, calling it "Low Rated." He also mentioned Chuck LaBella, who worked with Maher on "Politically Incorrect," claiming LaBella had repeatedly encouraged the dinners. Trump characterized LaBella as having risen through NBC ranks due to his association with "The Apprentice."
