Scott Eastwood has detailed an on-set confrontation with his "Fury" co-star Shia LaBeouf, whom he described as a "psychopath" during their time filming the 2014 American war movie.
Eastwood recounted the incident on the "Armchair Expert" podcast, stating that LaBeouf was "clearly tormented" and that working with him was "tough." The confrontation occurred when LaBeouf took issue with Eastwood spitting tobacco on a tank, an action that was part of the script. Eastwood recalled telling LaBeouf, "Enough is enough. F—k you. Stop pulling your s—t. I’m gonna whoop your ass."
Brad Pitt, another co-star in "Fury," had to step in to de-escalate the tense situation between Eastwood and LaBeouf.
Eastwood characterized LaBeouf as a "very method" actor, citing instances where LaBeouf allegedly pulled out a tooth and cut himself to prepare for his role. "And I remember thinking, 'OK. This guy's crazy. I'm just gonna keep clear from this guy. I don't play this game,'" Eastwood said.
Eastwood suggested that "everyone had moments with Shia" on the set of "Fury," adding that "the film industry attracts psychopaths because it’s art and business and they kind of intersect."
LaBeouf has a documented history of struggles with alcohol addiction, for which he has sought treatment multiple times. He also has a record of arrests spanning over three decades.
This is not the first time LaBeouf has been reported to have clashed with co-stars. During the filming of "Lawless" in 2012, rumors circulated that he had gotten into a physical altercation with Tom Hardy. LaBeouf later disputed these claims in 2019, explaining on the "Hot Ones" podcast that he and Hardy were merely roughhousing and wrestling. However, "Lawless" director John Hillcoat seemingly confirmed that a fight did occur between the two actors, stating that they had to be restrained. LaBeouf has been contacted for comment.
