Scots TV Presenter Becomes Detective to Catch Stalker

Top Scottish TV presenter Natalie Pike has revealed how she took on the role of detective to catch her own stalker during a harrowing eight-month ordeal. The former model, 43, successfully secured a conviction against the man who had been secretly following her, contacting her friends, and stalking her at work.

Ms. Pike, who works for the BBC and Manchester City's TV channel, shared her experience hoping to assist other victims. The ordeal began in February when two men parked a van outside her local hair salon, informed staff they knew she was a customer, and demanded to know her address. This led to frantic calls from her hairdresser to Ms. Pike and her son's school.

Beginning her own investigation, Ms. Pike discovered a series of increasingly sinister messages in a previously hidden Instagram folder from a man she did not recognize. The messages, spanning 18 months, started innocently but deteriorated over time. Her hairdresser confirmed the identity of the man after Ms. Pike shared a screenshot of his profile.

A week later, while working at Manchester City's Etihad stadium, Ms. Pike spotted the same man staring at her from near the barriers. The encounter triggered a panic attack, prompting her to contact the police. Stadium CCTV footage, reviewed by the authorities, confirmed the man's approach. Ms. Pike described the footage as "harrowing to watch," detailing how he maintained eye contact and moved closer over a 20-minute period.

The police arrested the man the following morning, taking Ms. Pike's statement. She later learned he had messaged her best friend, possessed photographs of himself near her home, and had images of her ex-husband's car on his phone.

The stress of the stalking compounded difficulties for Ms. Pike's family, as her mother was battling stage 4 bowel cancer. Ms. Pike's mother collapsed upon hearing the news and was hospitalized for five weeks.

During the court proceedings, Ms. Pike accepted an invitation to cover Scotland's World Cup campaign in Boston, which provided a welcome distraction. She publicly thanked her parents, friends, and Manchester City for their support, and acknowledged assistance from the anti-stalking charity, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, for counseling and specialist support.

Ms. Pike's stalker pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm or distress. He received an 18-month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was issued a restraining order preventing him from contacting her. She urged others experiencing stalking to seek help, emphasizing that support is available and encouraging them not to be deterred by statistics.
