One of three Scots College students accused of aggravated sexual assault has been suspended from the institution and faces significant restrictions on his daily life.
The student, identified as one of the 'Scots College Three', is accused alongside two fellow students, aged 13 and 14, of raping a 14-year-old girl in an alleyway in Bondi Junction. The incident occurred last month, leading to the boys' arrest and subsequent charges.
During a court hearing, the boy's bid to access platforms like YouTube and the PlayStation Network was denied. Prosecutors argued that such access could allow him to communicate with the alleged victim, key witnesses, or his co-accused. The defense indicated that the student has been suspended from school and is effectively under house arrest, spending all his time at home.
Judge Sue Duncombe ruled against the immediate restoration of social media access, stating it was "wrong to open the door so soon" to such privileges. The court heard that the defense lawyer had requested access to YouTube for both educational and recreational purposes.
Under the terms of their bail, the three boys, who are legally barred from identification, must remain at home between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent. They are also prohibited from interacting with each other outside of school, traveling to Bondi Junction, using social media, or contacting the alleged victim. Interim apprehended violence orders have been issued against the trio, preventing them from coming within 200 meters of the complainant.
