Scotland Yard Investigates Fatal Shooting at Memorial Service

A murder investigation has been launched by Scotland Yard after a 40-year-old man was fatally shot during a memorial service in east Acton. The incident occurred on Friday evening, October 2, 2026, around 7:45 p.m. when shots were fired. Up to 50 people, including children, were present at the service at the time of the shooting.

Officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots heard by members of the public in the vicinity of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street. Emergency services attended, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, has appealed to the public for assistance. Police are seeking witnesses who were in the Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or Wormwood Scrubs playground areas between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday. Detectives are particularly interested in information regarding suspicious behavior, the carrying of weapons, or vehicles seen driving at high speed.

Investigators are also requesting any individuals who may have captured relevant photographs, video footage, dashcam, doorbell camera, or mobile phone recordings. Information shared on social media that could be pertinent to the case is also being sought.

"However insignificant it may seem, the smallest piece of information could prove crucial in helping us establish what happened and identify those responsible," DCI Howie stated.

No arrests have been made at this early stage, but the Metropolitan Police confirmed that detectives are working diligently to determine the full circumstances surrounding the 'senseless act of violence.' A crime scene has been established on Braybrook Street.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to confirm the cause of death, though the victim is understood to have sustained a gunshot wound.
