Schoolboy Accused of Stabbing Girl After Writing Notes on 'Hatred of Women'
A 15-year-old boy allegedly recorded 'misanthropy, misogyny, suicide, bullying' as motives for the attack at a school in Norfolk, court hears.
A masked 15-year-old boy is accused of stabbing a girl in the back at Thorpe St Andrew School near Norwich, Norfolk, after writing notes expressing his "hatred of women," a court heard.
The prosecution alleges the teenager, who is now 16 and cannot be identified for legal reasons, recorded his motives for the March 11 attack as "misanthropy, misogyny, suicide, bullying." He also allegedly developed a "dangerous interest in killers and killing," according to court documents.
Prosecutors presented evidence that the boy used an app to create disturbing videos, including one depicting serial killers Ed Kemper and Ted Bundy "dancing over a still image of the globe." Another video reportedly showed a fictional serial killer dancing over a map with a list of victims.
Prosecutor Chris Paxton KC told the jury that the injury sustained by the victim was "sheer luck" as it only required gluing at a hospital and she was discharged the following day. He stated that the prosecution believes the defendant was "deadly serious in what he was doing and what he intended," citing CCTV footage of the attack in a corridor.
"Masked up and tooled up with a kitchen knife… hitting [his victim] in the back when she was defenceless and vulnerable," Paxton said. "We say this demonstrates [the defendant’s] intention to kill."
The court heard that the boy arrived at the mixed secondary school with a kitchen knife, dressed in black and wearing a mask. After the alleged stabbing, he fled the premises but was apprehended by police shortly afterward. He reportedly directed officers to the weapon.
A search of the suspect's home uncovered evidence of his "obsessive and dangerous interest in killers and killing," the court was told. One note, allegedly written the evening before the attack, read: "I really want to do it, really bad. I hate having to wait… but I have to wait. I need a plan." It concluded: "I want at least two, maybe three. I’d be proud of five."
Other writings allegedly included: "The idea of violence or possibly even murder sparks something in me. I don’t know what it is or what it means either. But I think I like the idea of it. It inspires me."
Jurors were shown a video compilation allegedly created by the defendant featuring the killer from the BBC series "The Fall," as well as references to notorious serial killers like Ted Bundy, Ed Kemper, Steve Wright (the "Suffolk Strangler"), and fictional characters such as Dexter Morgan.
Materials found included a shoebox that appeared to have been stabbed and a short essay detailing a fictional stabbing. The essay described arming himself with a 10-inch knife and stabbing a man in the heart.
In November of the previous year, the court heard that the defendant had taken a kitchen knife and later confessed to his mother that he was "feeling down and had intended to hurt himself but he chickened out." This followed a personal issue, after which school support was sought and he agreed to counseling.
The schoolboy has admitted to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a blade without lawful authority but has denied attempted murder. The case is ongoing.
