A 15-year-old schoolboy had "hatred in his eyes" when he allegedly shut his history teacher inside her classroom and attacked her with a large kitchen knife, Swansea Crown Court heard.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Vicki Williams at Milford Comprehensive School on February 5. The prosecution stated the student, now 16, stabbed the teacher in the head.

Prosecutor Christopher Rees KC told the jury that the boy launched a "sustained attack" and "intended on killing" Ms. Williams had she not disarmed him. He added that the boy would have continued the attack if Ms. Williams had not grabbed the knife and fended him off.

The prosecutor stated that the incident began when the student entered Ms. Williams' classroom around 3 p.m. to ask her to check his work. After the teacher closed the classroom door due to the cold, "alarm bells" began to ring in her mind regarding the boy's intentions.

The student then allegedly produced a large kitchen knife from his bag and stabbed Ms. Williams in the head. A struggle ensued, during which Ms. Williams reportedly screamed and managed to take the knife from him. The student then fled the school and was later arrested at a relative's home.

Ms. Williams was taken to Withybush Hospital and treated for a scalp wound, cuts to her head, and scratches on her back. She told police that the boy said nothing as he lunged at her, describing the look on his face as "pure hatred."

Mr. Rees stated that the student shut the classroom door specifically "to isolate Vicki Williams so that he could attack her."

The boy has pleaded guilty to possessing a kitchen knife on school grounds. The defense's argument is that the injuries were caused accidentally when the student refused to hand over the knife when asked by Ms. Williams, and that he did not intend to kill, cause grievous bodily harm, or assault her.

The trial at Swansea Crown Court is ongoing.
